Abstract:
Packets of non-linear internal waves were observed in 3 moorings on the southwest Portuguese shelf during 15 to 18 October 2000. The observed temperature in the first mooring shows a vertical displacement of about 50m to 35m during the passage of non-linear internal waves with duration of about 3h. The first empirical mode dominated the motion with the first eigenvalue with 66% on the 16''', 86% on the ]7lh and 74% on the 1 Ef" day of October. With this assumption, we will discuss the mass transport by non-liner internal waves using the methodology of lnall et al (2001) applied to the southwest shelf near Setubal canyon
