dc.description.abstract	This report describes the work performed by the Instituto Hidrográfico (IH), under the scope of Project SURGE - "Simple Underwater Renewable Generation of Electricity" in the first 18 months (October 2009 and March 2011). The performed work aims to the environmental characterization of the Wave Roller testing site. Aspects regarding the following themes will lead to the mentioned characterization: a) nearshore morphology (rock outcrops and superficial sedimentary structures); b) geology,specially target layers description; c)characterization of the sedimentary cover (texture and composition); d) oceanographic regime (wave, tide and currents) and wind forcing; e) beach/inner shelf morphodynamics and the impact of extreme events on bottom morphology and sediment dynamics
